Uh, no.  I really think he's being straight about that.  See the Loren Conors interview.  He's amazed that people really record music like that! I don't think he had any idea, for real.

Weren't Sonic Youth big Madonna fans? I reckon Jandek's pulling our legs and
is a big fan of Bobortemagus, Loren Connors,Half Japanese, Lydia Lunch and
all that other avant-skronk, but he's just being modest

BUT! (and not for Jandek!) You could say some of his bluesier/rockier
mid-period stuff might have a Tom Petty influence, which could mean that
stuff WAS recorded in the mid-80s or earlier...
