Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right way to be responding to the current request for recommendations, but anyhow... I have an annotated discography in progress, web-logged at Myspace (not being espeshly web-literate, I assume you can just search for "Michael Mellor" - just don't be surprised when you get someone whose URL is "Meep").

20 of the 46 albums are reviewed there, with notes (mostly paraphrasing Seth, and/or the documentary) on the rest. The 2nd tribute album is also reviewed.

If none of this works, I'd advise newcomers to check out: Any of the first four (Ready for the House, 6 & 6, Later On, Chair Beside a Window) for the classic formula of eerie, fragmented narratives + erratically thrummed acoustic guitar; Telegraph Melts (NOT Modern Dances) as the best of the weird electric albums; Blue Corpse, Somebody in the Snow, and You Walk Alone for blues at its most ramshackle, but approaching Dylan for ragged-glory; I Threw You Away or Humility of Pain, as late-period returns to acoustic guitar, with sonorous Tim Buckley-like vocals; the Glasgow Sunday live album for EEEvil that would scare Swans & the Birthday Party
