Well, I'm sure there are places on the upper east side of Manhattan  
that would disagree. ;-)

A lot of the experimental/noise stuff I usually think of come from  
the States or Japan, not Europe. Whitehouse is the only UK noise band  
that comes to mind. And some of their members (Peter Sotos, for one,  
I think) are from the States. I admit I'm not up on this scene.

But it could be Jandek feels more at ease a few thousand miles from  
home. Either because of the distance, or, as you implied, the  
experimental musical festivals hosted there.
