Official site
kenvandermark.com
is regularly updated with
blog entries, tour dates, and so on. It includes a
discography,
less complete and detailed overall than this one, but sometimes
with extra info.
Documentary
A documentary about Ken
called Musician was
released in 2007. It was made by Daniel Kraus as part of
his “Work Series”. Follow the link for screening
dates. A four minute excerpt
is on
YouTube. The documentary will be released on DVD
by Facets Video in 2008.
Photos
Ken’s official site has a photos section. Many
live photos from New York and Europe are on the Downtown
Music site. Here are some live photos I took myself in September
2004: Territory
Band-4, Ken
Vandermark & Paal Nilssen-Love.
Other links
The chi-improv
group often includes discussion of Vandermark and the Chicago
improvised music scene in general.
Tushar Samant’s Now Is lists
upcoming creative music events in Chicago, including Ken’s
concerts.
There’s
an entry
about Ken on Wikipedia. Consider taking a minute to correct or
expand it.
Notes
On all recordings, Vandermark plays tenor saxophone, clarinet,
and/or bass clarinet. On some recent recordings (2002 or newer),
he also plays baritone saxophone.
I am in the process of gradually adding recording dates and locations
and track listings; at present most albums have this information,
but not yet all.
This a discography, not a sessionography; I don’t plan on
expanding it to include not-officially-available material such as
radio broadcasts, audience recordings, and unreleased studio
sessions. If you want to put something like that together, feel
free.
Some out-of-date web browsers, such as Internet Explorer,
will not display track listing information correctly
(punctuation does not appear). I suggest switching to
a modern browser such as
Firefox
(or Safari for Mac).
