[Jandek] Houston Sunday

Diverseworks gig was very interesting.  This time it was a five-piece band.  No vocals from Mr. Rep, just fretless bass played on his lap with a steel slide.  Now I know how those recent bass-guitar-only CDs were produced!  The one hour improvised set also featured Bass Clarinet, Guitar/Keyboard loops, a chime player and a gong player.  At times exciting, boring, uplifting, funny, mysterious & funky.  Not like Rudyards' funky, but more like swimming in rolling ocean waves of syncopated rhythms.

On the way out I overheard someone saying (no doubt comparing to the recent Rudyards' set) that this was the most diverse sets from a musician that they had ever heard in their lives :)   Diverse works indeed...
