sometimes i get the impression that people are of the opinion that mr. smith is holed up in a basement somewhere in houston (although we've already been down THAT road about houston & basements) with a single lightbulb hanging down from the ceiling singing into a little microphone that's plugged into a reel-to-reel recorder and that he never sees the light of day like some artistic vampire or howard hughes (ANOTHER houstonian).  in fact, it's obvious that he possesses all the lastest little electronic gizmos and gadgets, of which his live appearances bear evidence, he drives a nice car, by his own admission, he's been in charge of a successful business enterprise, etc., etc.  i think it's safe to say that he's plugged in and equally safe to say that at the very least he checks in from time to time out of curiosity and for the sheer sake of personal entertainment.  i could be wrong but i may be right....
