The author was discussing "outsider music" and mentioned a few people/groups 
who have been classified as such, (Jandek, the Shaggs, Skip Spence, etc.).

There was no relationship established between Jandak and Newman, except to 
indicate that they both often refuse to conform to music industry norms in 
their work.
