thanks for replying. mostly, i assume that 0739 is just a random number (the way most people pick 37 or 73 when asked to choose a number between 1 and 100), and that labelling a record as mysterious as Ready for the House "0739" suggests a vast catalogue of still more obscure music - there's something very Borgesian about that, and also self-deprecating on Jandek's part.
   
  anyhow - doesn't the calendar date from the Founding of the Temple? if so, that seems to fit with Jandek's symbolism on Ready for the House. on Worthless Recluse, he hints more strongly that "the House" means God's Kingdom, whether here on Earth, or in the afterlife.
   
  hohum. maybe i'll stick to theorizing about the Gnostic subtext of Radiohead lyrics...

  Depends when during the secular calendar year the album came out. The earlier part of the year was 5738. It didn't turn 5739 till after Rosh Hashanah.

  Can anyone corroborate this? It did once cross my mind that 0739 might refer to the start of WWII, but the invasion of Poland would be 0939, so maybe not.
   
  I doubt Jandek is Jewish - although his spiritual progression reminds me of Leonard Cohen inasmuch as he's had an Old Testament Christian phase, an NT phase, and a Buddhist phase) - but I wouldn't put it past him to be a bit of a Kabbalist (NOT in the Madonna sense)
