I'll tell ya what he's hiding...
there were visible buildings or signs or smokestacks in the background he
needed to cover up,because they would have given away his actual location.
or maybe this was one of those photographs containing some kind of
paranormal phenomena
(UFO's,orbs,ghosts,sprites,ball lightning,raining frogs,etc...)
