At the time of the Trubee interview (1985), Jandek
said he was a machinist. He talked about how he
intended to quit soon, because though it's a good job
for younger guys, he didn't think it was a good thing
to make a career out of. He also talked about a new
machine from Europe that he had to work with that made
his clothes so oily that he could feel it for weeks,
even after washing with bleach. Fascinating stuff.
