Thanks- EVP are recordings or live broadcasts of radio static that seem to be ghostly voices speaking. Ghostly voices from beyond the grave? Alien intelligences trying to communicate to people who love static? Or just artifacts (interference) of thousands and thousands of radio transmissions through the complex magnetic ether of our planet? Touch Records recently released a 2 CD set of EVP recordings called "Ghost Orchid" from the archives of people who firmly believe that EVP are supernatural in origin. The typical EVP scenario seemed to be a recording of "hiss hiss crackle crunch -oo- hiss pop crackle" and then an explanation of "You can clearly hear a voice saying "blue" which obviously was referring to the blue shirt I was wearing when I made the recording, and thus the voices were trying to communicate directly with me." I'm not even sure the Ghost Orchid release isn't an elaborate Halfer Trio prank, but EVP has been written about in other sources, and I have even seen schematics on building EVP receivers in amateur radio magazines, although you can supposedly pick up EVP just from the static in-between stations on a regular radio. -Josh Ronsen http://www.nd.org/jronsen Delivered-To: jandek@cs.northwestern.edu Received: (qmail 11180 invoked from network); 8 Mar 2001 22:13:45 -0000 Received: from grace.speakeasy.org (qmailr@216.254.0.2) by godzilla.cs.nwu.edu with SMTP; 8 Mar 2001 22:13:45 -0000 Received: (qmail 2193 invoked by uid 18367); 8 Mar 2001 22:13:44 -0000 Received: from localhost (sendmail-bs@127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 8 Mar 2001 22:13:44 -0000 Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 14:13:44 -0800 (PST) From: R Joseph Wright To: "Ronsen, Josh P." cc: "'jandek@cs.northwestern.edu'" Subject: RE: Put My Dream On This Planet In-Reply-To: <45BB3D25CA31FC4F9FE376F6E0EAD34E1852D9@htcexch11286.htc.edu> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-jandek@cs.northwestern.edu Precedence: bulk On Tue, 6 Mar 2001, Ronsen, Josh P. wrote: > >Could you explain what EVP is?
